Danielle George of British Columbia’s Community Volunteer Connections is passionate about connecting volunteers with opportunities that resonate with them. Those volunteers can enhance their experiences by “taking the time to really reflect and lean in to the volunteer experience. To see themselves in the people or community they are serving.”
This year’s National Volunteer Week theme, Every Moment Matters, resonates with Danielle because “it is important for volunteers to recognize that they are creating a moment for the person who is on the receiving end that could have ripples that last for the rest of their life.” And those moments nourish the volunteer as well.
“We all need community and connection,” Danielle said. She challenged volunteer organizations to take the time to get to know their volunteers, to understand their likes and dislikes, how they want to be celebrated, and what sort of contributions would be the most meaningful for them. With that information, every volunteer opportunity—every moment—will truly matter for everyone involved.
