With a focus on youth aged 12 to 18, Lisa Kindree said her organization is seeing a record number of young volunteers coming through the doors, something she knows goes against a lot of the national trends.

Every Moment Matters when groups of young volunteers get together. They are trying to build their skill sets, they are trying to have their voices heard, and they are trying to make a difference. And, when they do it together, they make a larger impact on their community.”

Lisa says that “the skills youth develop from every opportunity that is available to them is key to community development and the future success of our cities.” Through their volunteer activities, they are developing leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, and they are building connections—with each other and with the people they are serving. She added that “even the smallest amount of community involvement can have cascading effects on the community.”

Lisa urged other organizations to work to empower youth volunteering and not to underestimate the significant contributions youth can make in their communities.
