International Volunteer Day takes place on December 5. It is a global celebration of volunteers. Volunteer Canada recognizes the 12.7 million volunteers in Canada who make our communities strong and connected.
On International Volunteer Day 2015, Volunteer Canada is putting the spotlight on the 4.7 million Canadian volunteers who receive support from their employers.
Employer-supported volunteering is any activity undertaken by an employer to encourage and support the volunteering of their employees in the community. Forms of employer support include: changing hours or reducing workload; allowing use of facilities or equipment to carry out volunteer tasks; providing recognition ora letter of thanks; or offering paid time off.
This year, Volunteer Canada is also celebrating the 10thanniversary of the Corporate Council on Volunteering, a group of 21 business leaders that encourage businesses of all sizes to support the volunteer efforts of their employees. Since2005, the Council has advanced employer-supported volunteering and facilitated multisector collaboration to maximize collective community impact. Thanks to their efforts, workplaces are recognizing the value of employer-supported volunteering and the positive effects it has on companies, employees and the quality of life in their communities.
Congratulations to the Corporate Council on Volunteering: Accenture, American Express Canada, BMS Group Inc., Cenovus Energy, CIBC, Deloitte & Touche LLP, Investors Group, Keurig Canada Inc., LoyaltyOne, Manulife Financial, Meridian Credit Union, PwC Management Services LP, RBC, Salesforce Canada, SAP Canada Inc., Starbucks Coffee Canada Inc., Tangerine, TD Bank Group, The Home Depot Canada, UPS Canada and Walmart Canada Corporation.
Thank you and happy International Volunteer Day to Canada’s 4.7 million employer-supported volunteers and the businesses that support their efforts!
